Have you ever felt distressed or very troubled over a situation or circumstance in your life? Has your heart felt the anguish of facing a difficult day? Has your soul felt the pain of deep agony? Have you ever asked our Father to just simply change an event or circumstance so that you would not have to deal with the pain of walking through it?

Jesus felt all of these emotions that day in the Garden of Gethsemane. His heart was filled with anguish and pain. Listen to his words:

"And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, sit ye here, while I shall pray" (Mark 14:32).

"And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt" (Mark 14:35-36).

Did you feel the anguish of his soul as you read these verses?

Jesus was very distressed and grieved in His heart. That very night He faced the agony of the cross. He would be crucified for the sins of the world. This burden He would bear alone. No one could bear it for Him.

No one really knows the agony that He felt that night. But we can know that it was deeper agony that anyone has ever or will ever feel. But because He suffered so much during His life and death, we can rest assured that He understands and has compassion for our sufferings.

When you find yourself deeply distressed, leave the burden with Jesus and quietly rest. He understands the deep agony of your soul and to you the right path He will sufficiently unfold.

When you feel the anguish of another difficult day, follow Christ's example and take time to pray. Tell Jesus the troubles of your heart and you will receive the faith, courage, and hope which He sufficiently imparts.

When you are troubled and fears have set in, call upon our Father for  the  victory He will win. Pain and hurt you may have to walk through, but know that Jesus walks this path with you.

When you feel that there is no one that cares, remember that Jesus your every burden shares. In deep compassion God will meet your need and comfort will come when to the Father you plead.

If we trust in Jesus and remain obedient to God's will, all will be well with us.  Just as Jesus did, we need to resign ourselves to the fact that what God wills for us is the very best, even though the road may be filled with hardship and pain.

God desires that we learn to depend entirely on His choices for our lives, knowing that at the end of the journey He will have brought good to us. As we submit to our Father's will, He works for us in wondrous and glorious ways. Jesus submitted and now is seated at the right hand of the Father and all things have been placed under his authority.

Because of Christ's obedience, you, me, and anyone else who desires to accept him as Savior and Lord are truly blessed.

Following Jesus is to walk on the higher ground of love, peace, and joy.
