Words
of Grace our Master prays
~ Jesus Prays for His Church ~
In
the 17 chapter of John, we get to hear
our Savior pray for His own. His prayer
is gloriously full of power and
authority. Please take time to read the
entire prayer. I have only quoted some
of it.
Facing betrayal unto death on the cross,
Jesus prayed for his children- those who
were already his and those who would
later accept him as Savior. His
desire was for his people to become one
with each other, one with Him and the
Father so that the world would believe
that the Father had sent Him to save
them.
Jesus knew all things that would soon
come upon Him - betrayal, scourging,
insults and mockery, and finally death
on a cross. Even though Jesus faced so
much, he thought about us. What love!
What selflessness!
Jesus prayed for us just a short while
before He was arrested and charged and
crucified. Can you imagine yourself
being concerned for the well-being of
others knowing that you were going to
endure such cruel and evil treatment
within a few hours? O, the love of God
in Jesus! Everything Jesus did and said
was for our good. Jesus died for you and
for me.
Meditating upon Christ's thoughts and
words of love brings comfort to my heart
and soul. I can rest assured that God
will accomplish His salvation in me. I
feel sure that, if you take time to
prayerfully read Christ's entire prayer
in John 17, you too will be refreshed in
him.
Jesus desires for
us to be joyful, full of hope and love.
All that He has written to us is to
bring us joy - His joy complete in us!
JESUS ASKED THE FATHER -
verse 11 ... "And now I am no more
in the world, but these are in the
world, and I come to thee. Holy
Father, keep through thine own name
those whom thou hast given me, that
they may be one, as we are."
verse 13 ... "And now I come to
thee; and these things I speak in
the world, that they might have my
joy fulfilled in themselves."
verse 15 ... "I pray not that thou
shouldest take them out of the
world, but that thou shouldest keep
them from the evil."
verse 17 ... "Sanctify them through
thy truth: thy word is truth."
verse 21 ... "That they all may be
one; as thou, Father, art in me, and
I in thee, that they also may be one
in us: that the world may believe
that thou hast sent me."
verse 24 ... "Father, I will that
they also, whom thou hast given me,
be with me where I am; that they may
behold my glory, which thou hast
given me: for thou lovest me before
the foundation of the world."
What did Jesus' prayer accomplish for
us?
have the joy of Jesus alive in us ... we
will be kept from the evil one
we will be sanctified in truth ... we
will one day be with Jesus
we will be one with Jesus and he will
abide in us
I
pray that you are blessed by the
magnificence Of Christ's person, and his
great love and concern for our well
being. I pray that, as you read his
prayer, your faith in who God is will
grow and that you will be assured that
God will accomplish all that Jesus has
asked Him to do.
